The Telehealth Student Practicum is a 40-hour program for high schools students to gain understanding of telehealth and the use of technology in the healthcare industry through education and shadowing experiences. Throughout the program, student will complete 12 hours of online educational modules focused on telehealth, health informatics, and cyber security. The remaining 28 hours will be split between shadowing at the local and regional Avera sites and a site visit to Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. Through shadowing, students will get the opportunity to see the concepts they learned about in the educational modules in practices. With the site visit to Avera McKennan, students will get to the see the other side of telehealth as the provider at the telehealth hub. Students will not only get to learn about telehealth, but also get to experience careers through a different perspective. This is a great opportunity for any student interested in a health care related field! For the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 cohort, we have identified Brookings Health System as a site for Estelline students for the 20 shadowing hours.
